Palin and Couric Interview

Posted by pianowow on October 30, 2008

The work this guy had to go through to make this video just boggles the mind.  Be it a live performance or an edited work, either would have been tedious.  I’m highly impressed by this video of music set to one of VP candidate Sarah Palin’s answers in the (in)famous Katie Couric interview.

Some great stuff has come as a result of that interview.  A while back SNL did a spoof of it.  The last 90 seconds is hilarious!

Finally, A Real, Portable Keyboard

Posted by pianowow on October 30, 2007

This new keyboard is amazing. It has two main selling points to the working musician, like me. First, it weighs only 25 pounds! That’s less than half what each of my other two keyboards weigh. But, the kicker is that not only is it lightweight, it folds in half to make it easier to carry.

I can’t emphasize enough how great, as a piano player, this will be. While I haven’t heard the sounds that come with it, or felt the keyboard under my fingers, I’m still very interested in getting one when it comes out.

I imagine the action will be very soft, probably organ-like even. But I can deal with that, as long as the sounds include a realistic piano, and good electric keyboard sounds, like a good rhodes, clav, etc.

The next question is, how much is it? I need to know how much to save up.

New CD

Posted by pianowow on October 8, 2007

Last weekend, I recorded a new CD with a local group that is looking for gigs. We took a Sunday afternoon, and put down 4 tracks, two of which I had never played before. It was a lot of fun, and it’s nice to get a better representation of my current level of playing recorded. I hope to work with these guys sometime soon.

My CDs

Posted by pianowow on October 4, 2007

I published a couple of CDs I have recorded over the years. The page itself gives a short description, but I thought I’d include a few, more personal notes on the CDs here also.

The first CD was meant as a gift to a girl I had a crush on for a long time. I was trying to think of a good way to tell her, and recording a CD seemed a decent choice. Hindsight, however, leads me to wish I had never given it to her. I recorded it, waited a month, then gave it to her, completely surprising her. She couldn’t believe it. Obviously, my feelings were unwelcome. She developed a severe animosity towards me that lasted for an entire year, until she actually listened to the CD. Once she listened to it, she completely changed her attitude towards me. She started being nice for a change. I can’t beleive she waited a year to listen to it. We ended up parting ways; nothing happened.

All the songs on the first CD are solo piano/keyboard, and really, not very good. I still had much to learn back then. It also includes the only composition I’ve ever been all that proud of, called “Longing”. I wrote it several months before recording the first CD, as an assignment for a composition class, thinking of her.

The second CD was recorded with a couple of guys I worked with before I moved. We made the CD hoping to use it to get some work around town. As the leader of the group it was my responsibility to submit the CD to clubs, restaurants, etc. But I became distracted during that time. I wish I had done more with them, as the group sounded fairly decent.
