I have grown a beard!  I really like my new look.  There are many things to get used to, the look being a big one.

I think there is a slight difference in the way someone treats someone with and without a beard.  I could be imagining things, but I feel more confident.  People respond with more respect or something.  I can’t put my finger on it exactly.

I haven’t used a hair brush in a long time.  But I have found that a boar hair brush works wonders for a beard.  The hairs line up, and everything seems in place after I brush my beard.  Plus it feels great!  So stimulating.

A neckline is a difficult, and on-going chore.  The beginning was the hardest part.  Trying to  a carve a neckline that is symmetrical and the proper shape was not easy for a beginner.  And as the beard grows, the edges become rough, I have to trim it again and again.  I didn’t expect that bit to be so much, maintenance wise.  I assumed all I had to do was shave my neck.

I’ll post pictures soon.  For now I believe my Google+ profile has a public picture.

For those of you that read via RSS, or who haven’t been here lately, you’ll notice a new feature on the left side bar, below my mp3 recordings.

This is the WordPress Flickr plug-in, and links to my recently-uploaded flickr photos.  I decided to get back into my photography hobby.  I’ll be joining the local photography club soon, and should be updating my flickr page with new photos once or twice a month.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, click on one of the photos, and browse my photo stream.

If you’re paying attention you’ll notice a couple of new features to my blog.  I’ve added some content from other websites I have something to do with.

On the right nav bar, you’ll find my Google Reader Shared Items as always, but below that is something new: my Twitter feed.  I post to Twitter somewhat regularly, about various things.  My twitter home page is here.

On the left nav bar, all the way at the bottom, you’ll see a box.net file sharing widget.  I’ve placed a few mp3s I’ve recorded over the years in a box.net account to share here.  I’m not quite sure I understand how to fully customize this widget.  I wish I could order the items properly.  But for now, we’re left with Box’s haphazard method.  It’s not alphabetical, or by date.  I don’t understand.  Oh well.

For someone that doesn’t like cable tv, I sure seem to blog a lot about it.

I have been toying with several RSS feed readers for several years.  The concept has always appealed to me.  Point the reader to your favorite websites, and you have access to all the new content, as it appears, as soon as it appears on the web.  Watch the news unfold on cnn.com live!  Find the latest gadget announcements on gizmodo.com!  Never miss a daily edition of your favorite web comic!

One of the readers I tried years ago was Google Reader, when it first came out.  It was a reader with a browser interface, which was unique at the time.  So it has all the benefits of Google Docs, like the ability to access it from any computer.I might do some reading while I’m on lunch at work, and when I access it from home, I know which stories I’ve read and which I haven’t.

Another perk is customization.  Google offers many, many settings to let you use this application anyway you like.  And in addition, users have written custom scripts to add even more features and options.  My favorite is the “Better Google Reader” add-on for Firefox from Lifehacker.com.

But my favorite feature by far, and the feature that eventually led me to use it full-time, is the ability to share favorite items with any or all of your contacts.  One-click on the “Share” button, and anyone who views your shared items will see this.  Your GMail contacts can subscribe to your shared items.  I click on things I find interesting most every day.  Your shared items are gathered to a website, which has it’s own feed.  So I’ve added the WordPress RSS Widget to the right navigation bar, so anyone that visits my blog here, can see a glimpse of my shared items.

If you’d rather communicate an entry a little more privately, Google Reader offers one-click integration with GMail, so that you can use your stored contacts to forward any RSS feed entry to only a select person.

The last selling point I have for Google Reader, which has actually been implemented in other readers, is a suggestion feature.  You subscribe to your favorite sites, and Google recommends similar sites at your request.
