About PianoWow

I am 20-something male living in Michigan.  I write about my life, things that interest me, products I buy, and anything else I think of.

I work as a database programmer for The Company.  That’s my way of not revealing my employer, by the way.

I play jazz piano, quasi-professionally, when I can.  But not lately.

  1. Hi Mr Pianowow

I came upon your site as I have two problems.

    1. I recently got a new MacBookPro and after nearly 30 years with a PC I am at the bottom left hand side of a learning curve!

    2. I have just made a commitment to do a fresh new site for myself using WordPress and so far it is doing my head in!

My current site since 1996 is http://www.rogercummiskey.com

I googled the query as to whether I could add images to y new site from Flickr and you came up as the local Guru!

If this is so then maybe you can spare me a few minutes.

    Thanks

    Roger in southern Spain.

    Hi Roger.

In the WordPress compose window look for “Upload/Insert”: next to it is an icon that will show “Add an image” when you hover the mouse cursor over it. Click that icon. In the image popup, click the “From URL” tab at the top.

On the photo page in flickr, click “All Sizes”. Choose the size you want and right-click the download link.1 Select “Copy Image Location”, and paste that in the “Image URL” field in WordPress, and give the image a title. Click the “Insert Image” button below, and you’re done.

1 If you haven’t enabled right-click on your Mac, do so in System Preferences -> Mouse (or touchpad) -> Enable right-click.

  3. Thanks for getting back to me Chris.

I do not wish to continue with silly questions but of necessity they have to be silly as I am starting from scratch but I do not wish to test your patience.

I have been doing as you have said but the end result is not as I expected.

I expected the images to appear in line maybe 3 across and then expand in a light box at medium size with some text underneath.

I would like to establish a consistent formula to upload images and populate my site.

I will understand if you do not wish to continue this discussion.

    Regards,

    Roger

I have seen that light box behavior you are describing before. I believe to accomplish that you will need some javascript or flash, which are both very restricted in WordPress. I’m really not sure exactly how that is done.

I believe it is possible to have them appear in a line. When you upload, before selecting Insert Image, you should be able to set the alignment so that text, etc appears next to it. I have not tried it, but I would imagine a second or third image could also appear next to the first image.

Sorry I couldn’t be more help.

  5. Thanks Chris

    I´l struggle on!

    Roger
